Traditions Regarding Protection from the Evil Eye
In the Mediterranean region, the Evil Eye is one of the most widely held beliefs. The mystical belief holds that the transmission of malicious and harmful energy can be passed from one person to another. The Evil Eye is the ill-will transmitted to one who is envied by the envier through the envier's stare. It is believed to affect the body and spirit of the victim.
Protection from the Evil Eye
takes many forms in mystical traditions. In Kabbalah traditions, a red string wrapped around the left wrist is believed to prevent the ill-will from affecting the victim. Jews believe that fish cannot be influenced by the Evil Eye and, therefore, many of their protective talismans bear the images of fish on them. Kabbalah scholars are typically a wealth of information regarding protection from the Evil Eye and are often tapped for advice.
