Dear Susan,
You cannot expect to reach self revelation by being obsessed about other people’s actions and behaviors. Kabbalah teaches that we can find answers in our own selves, and it mostly happens when we do not expect it. Your friend is almost right, but I would say: it is when you come to self revelation, then you will be able to understand why your mother lied to you. People have many reasons to lie to each other, but when parents lie, they only do it for love and protection of their own children. Do not dwell on the past. Learn to let it go and forgive.
